Welcome from the Senior School Principal

Welcome to the 2026–2027 school year. It is with great joy and enthusiasm that I return as Interim Middle and Senior School Principal. Many of you will know that I retired as Middle School Principal in June 2025 after a 33-year career in education, including 23 years at The York School. This year, I am delighted to step into an expanded role and continue advancing our innovative approach to teaching and learning alongside a caring and dedicated faculty.

The Senior School is a vibrant environment for students to live our core values: being curious, embracing challenges, and engaging with the community. Whether students have been at the school for many years, or just joined us in grade 9, learning is guided by the IB philosophy and framework. Inquiry is at the heart of this approach, with students actively honing the academic skills and understanding needed to be global citizens. Deepening this learning is its application to service and action which are integral components of the IB programs.

Complementing our academic program are rich opportunities in outdoor education, experiential learning, athletics, the arts, clubs, and student leadership. Engaging in these areas supports a holistic education, and furthers connection in the community.

This handbook provides essential information to help you prepare for the start of the school year in September. I look forward to getting to know all of our students and supporting their learning and achievements in the upcoming school year.

Sincerely,
Helen Gin
Interim Middle and Senior School Principal
